Our Story

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

(2 Cor. 4:18)

Established in 2009, EyeWitness Mission has funded, planned, and completed 21 sight-saving trips to underserved, resource-scarce communities around the globe.  Mission teams not only restore sight to patients with reversible blindness, they also serve the patients with love, care, and spiritual connection.

When contemplating the 7+ billion lives on this planet, it is easy to feel like the world is big, and its problems perhaps bigger.  Traveling has helped our mission teams see the world one person at a time: each individual becomes our neighbor, our friend, our family.  Viewed in this way, the world begins to perceptively shrink, we see past our cultural, linguistic, and geographic differences, and we create connections through our common humanity.

We also care about our local communities! To date we have served in 6 events that provide free eye care in Burlington, Auburn and Everett townships. At these clinics, we check vision, screen for medical issues, and help patients get the glasses that they might need. Teams of local volunteers provide check in, screenings, patient care, and optical (glasses) fitting. Patients requiring more comprehensive follow up care or surgery are taken care of by Cascadia Eye and Cascadia Surgical. Eyeglasses are donated by Cascadia Eyewear.

EyeWitness Missions is on a biannual schedule to hold 2-day Free Clinics in Skagit County. In 2022 these 2-day Free Vision clinics were held in February and November.
